ONE OF A KIND… (OOAK) collectible hand-painted stone, charged with rainbow magic and pots of gold.
WHEN I’M PAINTING… I have the stone I’m working on, a.k.a. my canvas, and the stone I use as a palette. This ‘palette stone’ sits to my right and is used for working out the kinks in the pens, which tend to clog, especially when layering.
IN THE BEGINNING… when this stone got covered in scribbles and doodles and such like, I would wash it off in order to start over – a clean slate, a clean stone. But then I started to see beauty in these unintended marks. They told another tale; one I hadn’t consciously intended. Like channelling, I guess – more dreamscape than sea- or land-scene. And dreams and the subconscious fascinate me and have always featured strongly in my work.
SO I BEGAN… to use the unconscious marks as a base, and then create a conscious set of marks on top of them.
👈🏻 This stone belongs to this series.
WHEN I WAS LITTLE… I loved the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" and all that it seemed to promise. It stirred in me a wistfulness for a place I had never seen, a place that existed somewhere beyond the edges of this world. It was a place I longed to visit. A place I yearned to live. Throughout my life, I have sought that illusive realm, always searching for a sense of belonging that runs deeper, more spiritual, than anything this earth has ever offered me. Perhaps that is why Heaven and its imagery have always fascinated me… or why I dream of living in a place like Pandora from Avatar, where everything feels connected, alive and in harmony. I’m sure I’m not alone in that longing, in the feeling of not-quite-belonging anywhere, and of feeling lost on Earth, like it wasn’t supposed to be my planet, like I portaled onto the wrong one.
THIS STONE… with its layered colours… reminds me of that rainbow – both literally, with its vibrant arch, and in its symbolic representation of hope, dreams, and the promise that something better lies just beyond our reach. The hues of blue, gold, and red bleed into each other like the merging of different emotional states – longing, passion, and faith in something beyond the tangible. It feels potent, like an attraction stone, an alchemist’s crucible, a place where transformation is sparked.
I IMAGINE THAT… if I place this stone in my studio, right beside my desk, its energy will inspire me, reminding me of the beauty and power in daring to dream. It's a small piece of my inner vision, crystallised. Just as the rainbow in the song symbolised a bridge to another world, this stone feels like a beacon – a bridge between where I am and where I long to be – a place of creativity, abundance, and spiritual connection. I feel like it holds the energy to attract success, creative flow, and even luck, all while serving as a reminder of that deeper longing for belonging.
SOMEWHERE OVER THE RAINBOW
In my heart, a rainbow arcs,
Not in the sky, but deep within,
A layered world of gold and blue,
Of dreams I've always called my kin.
It whispers of a place unseen,
Where colours blend and souls take flight,
A distant land that lives in me,
Bathed in hope, bathed in light.
I've searched the skies, the earth below,
For somewhere I could call my own,
Yet all my life I've longed to find
A place not bound by flesh and bone.
Like Dorothy, I've wished away,
To somewhere past this earthly sphere,
A world where spirit leads the way,
And every shadow disappears.
A compass guides me, sure and bright,
A flame that sparks the winds of change,
A bridge between my dreams and life,
Where hope and wonder rearrange.
For somewhere over rainbows bright,
I'll find the place where I belong,
Where colors, heart, and dreams unite—
A light that leads me ever on.
